‘Norah’ by the country’s filmmaker Tawfiq Alzaeedi won the Special Mention Award in the An Sarte Regard section.

Yesterday Friday (May 24) at 8 pm local time (12 pm Bangladesh time) the names of the winners were announced and the awards were distributed at the Dubussy Theater in the Palais de Festival building in southern France.

This is the first time in history that a Saudi Arabian film has been given a place there.

With inclusion in this festival, Saudi cinema has taken a step forward through awards, according to people related to cinema. Norah premiered at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah in December last year.

Maria Bahravi played the central role of ‘Norah’. This is his first movie. Maria is being discussed as a potential face of Saudi cinema after acting in the movie ‘Norah’. Popular Saudi actor Yaqub Alfarhan played the role of Nadi opposite him.

The Saudi Ministry of Culture organizes a film competition every year. Young filmmakers submit their screenplays there. The Saudi government subsidized the selected screenplay for film production.

‘Norah’ won this competition in 2019. Tawfiq Alzayedi later got an opportunity to make the movie with the funding of the Saudi government.

‘Norah’ is made with the story of the social reality of Saudi Arabia in the nineties. All kinds of art, including music, painting, were banned in Saudi at that time.

The main character of the movie is Norah, an illiterate village girl. He married into the family. After marriage more complications came in her life. Norah started trying to get rid of this chain.
